A PIONEERING club for deaf and hard-of-hearing youngsters is now up-and-running.
The Buzz Club is part of the expansion of the hearing impairment unit at Bury Central Library and offers youngsters aged between 10-16 the chance to use the unit's extensive facilities.
Now already in its second session, the youngsters meet on the first Wednesday of every month and talk about their interests and hobbies.
They also take part in a variety of activities using the wide range of equipment including the Internet, and subtitled videos and books.
Organiser and hearing impairment librarian, Miss Lenke Csaba, is delighted with the success.
"Already we have a good number of youngsters taking part who really seem to be enjoying it. We are doing a whole range of activities and it is going really well."
The hearing impairment unit was set up by the council in December thanks to a £45,000 grant from the Sir Jules Thorn Charitable Trust and is run alongside the visually-impaired specialist centre established five years ago.
The service is expected to be widely-used as an estimated 31,000 adults and children in the borough have difficulties.
Miss Csaba emphasised the club is looking for new members and anyone who is interested can go along to any of the sessions from 6-7pm.
If you would like further details ring Miss Csaba on (0161) 253 5874 or the minicom on (0161) 253 6484.
