REGARDING Mrs Maureen Armfield's remarks, it is a great pity that she feels a person in a nursing home can be treated like a child and not someone in their elderly years. Not all homes are as she described - ours certainly is not.
People in nursing and residential homes are offered the best care and attention possible and, as people who have worked in these areas, in any good home, the residents are treated as members of an extended family.
They are served meals that are, more often than not, of better quality and frequency than they would expect at home. They are also kept clean and tidy so that they are able to maintain their dignity and pride.
They are also encouraged to maintain their private lives and continue activities both in and out of the home. If the residents do not wish to do something they are not treated with contempt. They can do as they wish - this is their home.
For those who are unhappy, then maybe a move is the best option - to somewhere where they will be treated as a person not a pound sign.
