FINANCIAL adviser Sue Counsell is seeking sponsors to help fund a Himalayan trek in aid of cancer research.
Sue, 37, of Livesey, Blackburn, needs to raise a minimum of £2,000 for the Imperial Cancer Research Fund before embarking upon the 60-mile trek in May.
She was inspired by a letter in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph requesting volunteers and her target is to raise £3,000 for the charity.
A partner in Charter Financial Planning, Preston, Sue, who has enjoyed hill walking in the Lake District for many years, said: "I'm looking forward to the trek in terms of scenery, but my main concern is the altitude and not being used to it. I'm also not looking forward to flying into Katmandu airport as the plane has to fly between two very close mountains."
To help prepare for the challenge Sue is building up her stamina by doing aerobics, running and walking the higher hills in the Lake District and Snowdonia. She will be sharing a small tent with a stranger. "We will all meet up before the trip and of course there's a long flight in which to get to know everyone."
John Lane of Live Action, organisers of the trek, said: "The response has been phenomenal. We have had to organise a further two treks in November to accommodate everyone."
The fund hopes to raise more than £150,000 to help the fight against cancer. Donations to the Imperial Cancer Research Fund can be made by contacting Sue at work on 01772 258885.
