Clitheroe 0 Workington 1
A GOAL from former Clarets loan striker Paul Stewart was enough to overcome Clitheroe who were left with nothing to show for a second-half onslaught.
Stewart put the visitors in front after five minutes when he nipped ahead of John Parrott to head home.
But Parrott then stood firm as top-six side Workington dominated the remainder of the first half, bar an effort from Dave Gardner who almost turned in a Dennis Hill cross. The roles were reversed after the break as Clitheroe camped in the Town half but they were unable to find a way through.
Brian Welch fired just over and Chris Grimshaw put an effort wide as Workington hung on to keep their outside championship hopes alive in the North West Trains League First Division.
The defeat kept Clitheroe in the bottom half of the table but they took heart from matching one of the League's leading sides after struggling to close the gulf in recent games against title-chasers.
