IT is heartening to read such articles as that written in 'Soapbox' by the Rev John Faraday (LET, April 1) and to learn that present-day standards of behaviour are not acceptable to everyone.
Over the past decade or so, standards have fallen in every direction, not the least in that of acceptable speech. Apart from the fact that 'bad' language now appears to be common coinage, such words as 'gutted' and 'git,' both wholly deplorable, are likewise common parlance.
It would be nice to know that the Lancashire Evening Telegraph might lead the way uphill by refusing to accept such adverts as that in the same edition by Enterprise Inns, which seems to me in the worst of taste as, indeed, was the 'Wright On' piece (LET, April 2).
May I, on the latter one, point out that many pensioners, having worked hard all their lives, may like to get up a little later in the mornings now they are retired.
I would suggest, too, that the buying of what was referred to as 'two-for-ones' is more in the line of those people who have, in fact, a little money to spare.
