SECONDARY school pupils were invited to put pen to paper to say how they would improve Burnley in a competition organised by the town's Rotary Club.
The winning essay was penned by Hannah Baker, 12, of Walshaw High School and she was presented with a trophy by the club at the Alexander Hotel, Burnley.
Second was Lauren Evans, also from Walshaw, and third was Amy Begola of St Hilda's RC High School.
All three won book tokens and the best three entries from each school were awarded certificates.
Hannah's essay suggested fines for graffiti artists, knocking the bus station down and making spare ground into a grass area.
She also thought industry should be encouraged to create less pollution.
