STUDENTS in a Blackburn school are getting a taste of real-life maths through our NIE material.
Housing prices, the cost of cars and football results are just some of the subjects studied in the classroom by a group of pupils in year 10 at Witton Park High School, using our Maths Motivation pack which includes a daily delivery of our newspaper for a week.
"There's a lot of really useful material in the pack," said deputy headteacher Steve Houghton. "Pupils in the group are enjoying the project as a change from their usual textbooks."
The maths supplement and worksheets also make good links with Information Technology and students have become adept at producing spreadsheets using information from the newspaper.
The Maths Motivation material is being updated and will be relaunched during the summer term, ready to support the National Year of Numeracy, starting in September.
