DELIGHTED derby winner Stan Ternent celebrated a "really big win" as his Burnley side homed in on Second Division safety last night.

Goals in each half from Andy Payton and Glen Little secured a 2-0 win over north-west rivals Blackpool which lifted the Clarets to 16th-place in the table and five points clear of the drop zone.

"It was a really big win for us. We need another couple and then we'll be okay," said Ternent.

"It's another step. We have five games left to play and in an ideal world I'd like a couple of wins.

"I'm not bothered what other sides do and what they don't do. The only thing that concerns me is how we perform and what results we get.

"When you get to this stage of the season results are of vital importance, so we are getting there."

The Burnley boss admitted he was considering a change of tactics and personnel when Payton scored a wonder goal to change the face of the game and pave the way for the Clarets success.

Ternent added: "It wasn't a classic by any stretch of the imagination but I thought we defended very well and in the end won the game comfortably.

"We weren't in a great deal of danger once we scored the goal.

"We played well as a team. All in-all-all it was a good night's work and three valuable points and now we get ourselves ready for Saturday which will be another big match for us.

"It has been difficult but we've had a settled team for a while now and we've only lost one game away from home in quite a few so it wasn't a surprise for us to win."

The victory, Burnley's third in five games, didn't come without a price, however, with Tom Cowan and Lenny Johnrose picking up injuries.

"Tom's twisted his ankle. He's had it iced up and will have treatment and we'll see how it is later in the week.

"Lenny's got a nasty cut on his shin. Again he'll have to have treatment and we'll have to have a look at it but I've no doubt we'll be well prepared when we play Bournemouth which will be a difficult game for us," Ternent added.
