THE 'unsung heroes' of Ribble Valley were presented with special awards by borough Mayor Dave Smith at the Ribble Valley Council Chambers in Clitheroe.
The Mayor told the recipients they represented the unsung heroes of Ribble Valley who gave so much to others.
"Of course, there are others in the borough like you. I couldn't possibly find them all and there are risks in singling out the few.
"You are the few who represent the many and this night of celebration is to send a message out to all the others that their work is recognised and valued and that the Ribble Valley would not be what it is without them," he said.
He said the recipients, including Lancashire Evening Telegraph photographer Jack Barry, did not all belong to recognised organisations, were not all known outside their communities, but got on with their community work "in a quiet way, seeking no reward, recognition or praise."
He also commended Lancashire Evening Telegraph reporter Theresa Robson for her "excellent reporting of Ribble Valley matters."
The awards were handed out by broadcaster and nature expert Ron Freethy, who also writes for the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
A reception followed in the town hall.
The Mayor said the awards night would now be held annually.
