THE inaugural Lancashire Primary Schools Under 11s Tag Rugby competition saw Highfield Priory School of Fulwood losing to English Martyrs County Primary School of St Helens by 15-25.
Spectators were particularly impressed with the losing side because the school has only introduced rugby into its curriculum this year.
Under 11s tag rugby is a mixed-sex sport and will be one of the sports making up the Millennium Youth Games to be held next year. The sport is also played in the Lancashire Youth Games, due to be held in the summer.
Both the summer event and last weekend's primary school tournament will help to decide which tag rugby team from Preston will represent the town in the Millennium games.
