WITH reference to a letter printed on April 8, 1999 from Mr A Cunliffe, putting his theory that the Rainford Village Hall is only obtainable for able-bodied people, I can assure him this is totally untrue.
To gain easy access to the building we have a special ramp for wheelchairs and prams. Since I have been clerk I have never received a telephone call from the disabled asking in advance if they can gain entry.
The hall is used frequently for the following: Monday - Karate Club evening (youth)
Monday - line dancing 11am to 1pm (all ages); Monday - 1.30pm embroidery class; Tuesday - over-60s Lunching Club; Tuesday - floral craft, art class; Tuesday - exercise class evening; Wednesday - art, crochet and keep-fit (over-50s); Thursday - knitting class.
Also, there is a thriving flower club, which meets once a month, and indoor bowls during the winter months.
As you can see from the above, we do not discriminate against anybody. Mother and toddler and playgroups have made enquiries regarding the hall and have not taken up the offer due to lack of convenient times.
Mrs I. Brown, Rainford Parish Clerk, Council Offices, Rainford.
