A MEMORIAL service to mark the life and work of a former Atherton teacher will be celebrated on Sunday, April 18.
Evensong at Atherton Parish Church at 6.30pm will take the form of thanksgiving for John Kenneth Lyon, who spent most of his working life at Hesketh Fletcher CE High School.
He died on Janury 6 this year.
He began work after the Second World War as an assistant master under the then head, Mr E. Ramsbottom, at Lane Top school in Market Street, and ended his career at Hamilton Street in 1980.
Anyone who remembers Mr Lyon is invited to join the service.
A MUSICAL Thanksgiving Celebration for the life of another former Atherton and Tyldesley teacher, Mrs Liz Shipway, will be held at St Thomas and St John, Lostock, Bolton, on Saturday, May 15 (starting 6.30pm). For more information contact Bob Shipway on 01942-840249.
