MEET the Sisters Afoot, a group of women runners who have come together to ensure they can get fit and feel safe at the same time.
The running group, which was formed before last year's Race For Life, is designed to give women of all ages and abilities the confidence to get out and go.
It is the brainchild of Andrea Dixon, from Preston Borough Council's sports development unit, who says the scheme's popularity has surprised every one.
"We launched this club before last year's Race for Life, opening it to any woman who wants to run and get fit," she said: "We knew there would be a demand for it, but we are surprised it has grown so quickly."
More than 47 women regularly take part in the club's jaunts around Moor Park on a Tuesday night. Some just jog, while others use the time to prepare for runs. Andrea added: "The club provides the women with the chance to run in a group so they feel safe.
"Moor Park is ideal for running but its reputation does put many people off. This club obviously proves women want to get out, have fun and enjoy themselves."
The women, clad in their new green T-shirts, sponsored by Fulwood Financial Services, are now a regular sight on Moor Park.
All members of the Sisters Afoot will take part in this year's Race For Life, a 5km run on the park due to take place on May 30. It is hoped hundreds of women will take part, raising thousands of pounds for Imperial Cancer Research.
Sarah Birtwistle, from Fulwood Financial Services, said: "It is a wonderful idea which we are pleased to be backing.
"We are based opposite Moor Park so we were very happy to back something which enables people to use the park."
