FOR the past term we have been studying Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, writes Amanda Taylor from Year 9 of St Mary's High School, Blackpool.
So you can imagine how pleased we were to find out that 100 seats had been booked for Year 9 to see a live performance of the play at Worden Arts Centre in Leyland.
The day began with a workshop where we learned about Shakespeare, Elizabethan theatre and the language of the day.
When members of the C'est Tous Theatre Company asked for volunteers to participate in some role plays on stage, nearly everyone had their hand up. Paul Lomax, Katie Schofield and Gary Marcus (pictured) were chosen.
Some groups performed dances while others read sections of the play and dressed up. Shakespeare really was coming alive for us.
The remainder of the day was taken up with watching the performance of the play. It was so much more meaningful seeing it acted out as Shakespeare intended.
Before we departed we had a chance to meet and greet the actors which was a perfect ending to a perfect day.
The whole thing was not only an enjoyable experience but an important one too.
