NEWTON Hall amateur swimming club continued their early season success with yet more wins in various competitions.
The Sub League A team, for swimmers aged 12 and upwards, swam against Chorley and Fleetwood recently and in an exciting gala came out winners by 108 points to Chorley's 105 and Fleetwood's 85.
Leading the way was Samantha Taylor who won the 14 and under girl's breaststroke followed by wins for the open ladies freestyle relay team and the 14 and under girls medley relay team.
An excellent win by Adam Carlisle for the men's 50-metre backstroke kept a formidable Chorley team at bay and wins by the boys 12 and under freestyle relay and Leanne Howe in the girls 14 and under butterfly kept Newton Hall just in front.
With relays counting double points, wins by the ladies open medley team, the girls 14 and under freestyle coupled with wins for Lewis Jones in the 12 years backstroke, Lisa How in the ladies butterfly and breaststroke, Newton Hall just pipped Chorley to maintain their unbeaten run.
In the Second Division, Newton Hall Rays were just pipped by Leyland by 104 points to 101.
In their second gala, the Rays handsomely beat Darwen and Blackburn by 109 points to 99 and 87 respectively, with individual wins by Elizabeth Booth, Rebecca Wells, Leanne Bonney, Debra Hillier twice and Bobby Moss. The youngsters in the Micro League for 9 to 12 year olds also started with success for their A team by winning against Rosegrove, Preston & Clitheroe. With 43 events in all, Newton Hall won 12 individual events and 8 relays.
Individual winners were Ben Penswick, Leanne Bonney, Caroline Edmonson, Andrew Hodgson, Steven Kent, Janette Rogerson, Oliver Roberts, Kathryn Whitely, Emma Seddon, Ben New, Rachael Taylor and Karren Skelly.
With more gala's to come for the sub league A team on June 5 at Lancaster, the Rays at home in St Annes on April 18 and the Micro As at Blackpool Lido on April 28 and the Micro Rays at Preston on April 16 more glory can be expected.
