Vale of Lune 97 York 10 VALE of Lune set a new club scoring record after hammering an already relegated York side in their penultimate game.
The Vale's 15 try romp gives them a slight chance of gaining promotion but it would require some bizarre results to see the dream come true.
The Vale's points included a hat-trick from winger Andy Miller, full back Anthony Cadman converted five tries and skipper Andy Higginbottom playing his final game at Powder House Lane, converted six out of seven conversion attempts.
Vale took the lead in just the first minute and they pushed forward with wave after wave of attacks to build up a half-century score by half time.
After the interval they continued in much the same fashion when Miller intercepted a stray pass and streaked 55 metres to the touchline.
It was only then that York managed to put up some resistance and sloppy Vale defending let the Yorkshiremen in for two quick tries.
The visitors tried grimly to hang on to some meagre glimpse of respectability but Vale were too powerful and were soon back into their stride. Chris Harrison secured a neatly executed try which was converted by a mammoth kick.
To huge cheers Miller collected his hat-trick when Huck unselfishly set him up 30 metres out. A final try from Bennetts was converted by Higgins with three minutes remaining but York clung onto the ball in the dying seconds to prevent a century humiliation.
