IN Saturday's St Helens Combination D H Griffiths quarter-final ties, Rifle went through at the expense of College Street, but Gerard Arms went down 2-1 at Pilkington Reserves.
Old Congs (Haydock) kept up their Division One form by upsetting Billinge 3-1.
Martin Hynes (twice), Damion Owen and Gary Ball scored The Anchor's goals in a 4-0 win at Chestnut Lodge. BICC Reserves were on the losing end of a 3-1 scoreline at Penlake Juniors but Child Reserves were made to battle all the way for a 3-2 win at Sidac Social, Lathom, Fargin and Sinclair getting their goals.
In a great game at Sutton Manor, Junction were leading Carborundum 2-1 but Mark Roby's 90th minute equaliser saved the day for Carborundum who improved in extra time and ran out 6-2 winners.
The Tom Worrall quarters also had their moments, Billinge Reserves (Reid 2 and Kenyon) deserved their 3-1 win over Gerard Arms Reserves (Barnes), while, Eccleston United (Ashton 2 and Menarry) did well to eliminate Ritherhill 4-2 at Ritherhill.
Bewsey Athletic had no answer to Clock Face Miners Welfare Reserves' experience and went out 2-8.
But the performance of the day came from Division Three side Red Star (Rainford). Down to 10 men after 10 minutes, they knocked out Division Two title battlers Hall Street Union, who were also Hospital Cup semi-finalists, 2-1 with goals from George Lee and Neil McKenzie. RESULTS
