WIGAN and Leigh College is offering free training for the town's front line ambassadors - people who welcome tourists to the area.
The scheme, funded by Europe, offers a qualification to the vanguard which includes receptionists, taxi drivers and stadium staff.
A college spokesperson said: "There are many benefits for everyone who takes part in the scheme, for example, improved service, good publicity for the area, motivated staff, all of which will ultimately increase profits."
Training covers customer care, health and safety, food hygiene, and security training for door staff.
In some areas of work, such as food and drink, units towards a full NVQ can be achieved.
The college will also custom build courses to suit individual organisations should they have specific training needs. Any small to medium size business can benefit from the Ambassador funding."
Anyone wanting to know more should attend a presentation evening at the Mill at the Pier on Monday, April 19, at 7.30pm when some of the first successful candidates will be receiving awards, or phone Adrian Roscoe on 01942 761831.
