A BISHOP will be coming home to Bury this weekend - literally.
Popularly known as "The Duke", the Right Reverend Michael Hare Duke, was the longest-serving bishop in the Anglican Communion serving as Bishop of St Andrew's, Dunkeld and Dunblane in Scotland from 1969-94
But before that he was Vicar at St. Mark's, Bury from 1956-1962 and regularly contributed to the Bury Times. During that time he lived in St Mark's Vicarage in Walmersley Road, which has since been converted into a worship centre since St Mark's was merged with the Parish of St John.
And it is in his old house that he will help conduct a service tomorrow evening, April 17 from 6pm. On Sunday he will be there to celebrate the morning service from 10.30am.
The Rt Rev Duke is currently director of Scottish Age Concern.
