A FLEET of executive jets is flying high with help from a revolutionary cordless telephone system supplied by Bury-based Pennine Telecom.
Instant contact via telephone handsets, operating similarly to cellular phones, is now possible anywhere within the vast new £1.7 million Manchester Airport terminal of Northern Executive Aviation.
Customers can speak directly to senior engineering staff wherever they go - the terminal offices, hangar or aircraft parking apron.
Using the new phone system, engineering staff responsible for maintaining almost £100 milllion worth of executive jet aircraft, owned privately and by the company, can talk to the owner or pilot about any problems as they work.
The conference call facility means swifter communication, decision making and information for staff and customers, as well as keeping parts flowing in and out of the company.
The Ericsson DECT cordless phones being used by Northern Aviation work through a newly-installed INDeX telephone switchboard system, also supplied by Salford Street-based Pennine Telecom.
"Both the cordless phones and the INDeX system are simpler to operate than any other phone set-up we've had," said Peter Whitham, Northern Aviation's engineering manager.
"There was very little training involved and no-one has had any operating problems."
