A 'PEACEMAKER' ended up being attacked when he went to help a man in a two-to-one scuffle, Burnley Crown Court heard.
Dafyd Roberts was allegedly kicked and kneed in the face by Charlton Pearson and suffered several injuries, including damaged teeth, the jury was told.
Pearson, 22, of Woodside Crescent, Rawtenstall, denies affray and assault causing actual bodily harm.
Peter Buckley, prosecuting, said Mr Roberts and his friend told Pearson and another man to leave the youth involved in the "two-to-one" scuffle alone.
The youth, who appeared to be on his own, had been punched and fell to the ground in Bacup Road, Rawtenstall,
Mr Roberts and his friend were ignored and his friend was punched in the face.
Mr Roberts bent down to see if the youth was all right and Pearson kicked him in the face, causing him to reel back, dazed.
He then followed that up by kneeing him in the face, causing Mr Roberts damage to his teeth, the court was told.
The defendant was picked out at an "informal confrontation" at the magistrates court.
Mr Buckley said Mr Roberts suffered facial injuries, bruising and swelling, and at first thought his nose was broken. He also received lacerations to his nose and forehead and swelling over his left eye.
Pearson was arrested and interviewed by police and said he had been present at the scene, had seen a fight and his friend Michael Young had been hit on the head with a bottle.
He claimed Mr Young had gone over to remonstrate with those involved and some sort of scuffle had followed.
Pearson denied any kind of involvement in an assault or any kind of involvement in any affray.
Pearson said after police arrived, he walked some distance away and was pointed out by two girls. That was the reason why he was arrested.
