POLICE are warning shoppers to hang onto their handbags following a spate of supermarket snatches.

Since January, 10 thefts from stores have been reported from Hindley Co-op, Asda Golborne and Leigh, and Sainsburys.

DCI Ian Hilton said: "We want to make women aware that there are people out there lifting handbags from trolleys.

"We appeal once again to shoppers to keep an eye on their bags while in the store, and also when loading up at the car. Do not leave them at any time unattended in trolleys"
