A GROUP of local people are working with the Civic Society to restore the churchyard and surrounding area of St John's Church.
This is an important building in the heart of Lancaster and could provide a peaceful oasis for people working or spending time in the city centre.
Clean up work and the partial renewal of the original railing have already taken place. The Million for the Millennium Fund has provided £6,000 towards the cost of the next phase. It will be necessary to raise further thousands for this phase. The new work will include replacement of the seating area and the rest of the railings. Store benches will cost hundreds of pounds each.
If any of your readers would like to make a donation or sponsor a bench could they please contact either myself or the Civic Society so they can be given further informed on this project.
