I have recently returned home to Norway from a visit to the UK (I am a Brit living abroad), and during my time there I made what has become a regular annual visit to Lancaster over the Easter weekend.

As usual, the quality of the Maritime Festival was excellent, and I feel moved to publicly congratulate David Wright and his team at Lancaster Tourism for yet another superb and thoroughly enjoyable event.

I have visited the festival each year, with only one exception, since the beginning of the decade, initially in my previous capacity as a travel trade journalist, and more recently, since moving overseas, purely as a tourist. I shall certainly continue to do so.

The Maritime Festival and other themed events organised by Lancaster Tourism have over the years really put this charming city on the Tourism map - this is a process I watched closely since the Tourism Development Action Programme was first set up in the late eighties. It is plain to see, talking to other visitors to the Festival, that the whole event is of top-drawer quality. Long may it continue!
