I WOULD like to reply to the Heysham resident writing in the Citizen (April 15), regarding the car boot sale and the criticism aimed at Mr Briggs and the neighbourhood council.

May I ask this resident if he/she could do any better?

Without the hard work and effort put in by the committee, the village would have dropped off the cliffs into the sea, as far as some villagers and the council are concerned. This sparkling little jewel in the Lancastrian crown has been neglected for far too long. While I agree the last car boot was a fiasco, caused by a lack of council funds to drain village green, this is not the norm. By not having the revenue the village would not have the firework display, carols around the tree, brass and jazz bands as well as the steam rallies, etc.

We have a village to be proud of and why should it not be shared with old and young alike, not just the residents?

As far as sorting the youth problem out, if the police cannot manage to solve the problem what chance has the neighbourhood council got?

A glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel, we have at last home grown members of our community standing at the next local elections who care for Heysham and its residents.

So let us all band together and support our neighbourhood council to create a better place to live in.

Heysham resident
