AN extra £50,000 has been dished out in Leigh and Wigan to help groups tackle poverty and homelessness.
Wigan Council's Social Services voluntarty bodies sub-committee distributed the cash aid to voluntary groups and organisations whose work complements that of the department.
And it comes in addition to the £185,000 already paid out this year.
The money will used to provide services to people who are involved with supporting those with drug and alcohol related problems, victims of domestic violence and young homeless projects among many others.
Chair of the committee, Cllr Maggie Coghlin, said it showed the generous and caring face of the people of the borough and their commitment to volunteering and supporting others in our communities enabling them to care for themselves.
