LEIGH'S voice against crime is getting bigger.
GM Police Authority have provided 10 community consultation workers, one for each district.
The new workers, Wigan's has yet to be appointed, will be based in community safety units at town halls.
Their task is to arrange consultation with all sections of the community, including hard to reach groups.
GMPA chairman, Cllr Stephen Murphy, said: "This is a major commitment of staff to support the new crime and disorder legislation.
"We are anxious to ensure that people are consulted about crime problems and can have their say about how we are policed.
"We are active partners in the new set-up to combat crime and have invested almost £million to show our commitment."
In the new crime and disorder reduction strategies local partnerships including police, local authority, health, police authority, probation, business and voluntary sector, have drawn up a hit-list of priorities and objectives to tackle crime over the next three years.
