BLACKPOOL Mechanics lost their Floodlit League Youth Title and their two-year unbeaten record when they went down 2-1 to Burscough, against the run of play, to a Michael Mason goal in the 50th minute.

Mechanics had earlier pulled back a first half deficit through Matthew Garner blasting the ball in from close range.

Mechanics had gone behind in the sixth minute when keeper Andy Speight made an uncharacteristic error and Lee McElvinney prodded the ball home.

As the seconds ticked away Garner unleashed a thunderbolt towards the top corner which somehow the keeper managed to claw away.

With almost the last kick of the game Edwards' shot was cleared off the line from a corner. This outstanding side now bid to become the first team from the Fylde Coast to win the Under 18 Youth Cup at the County Ground, Leyland, next Wednesday (April 29).
