MOVE over Posh, David Beckham met another very special girl on Saturday (April 17) and she's from right here in Blackpool.
Nine-year-old Katie Rogers, who lives in Tudor Close and attends Anchorsholme County Primary School, was lucky enough to have her name drawn out of the hat containing those of North West children who had raised the most funds at school for the children's charity group Barnardo's.
That won her the lucky invitation from Sharp, Manchester United's main club sponsors, to become mascot for their big game against Sheffield Wednesday last weekend.
Katie met David Beckham, Dwight Yorke, Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs and the rest of the squad before a capacity 55,000 crowd at Old Trafford.
And Katie, who admits she supports Blackpool as well as Manchester United, led out the team and enjoyed a brief kick-about with the world famous Reds before settling down in VIP seats with her grandparents, Sheila and Alan Woof, to enjoy the game.
Katie, who single-handedly raised £24.50 in a sponsored quiz, said: "I had a really great day. My grandma said she should have had a camera to catch my face when I learnt I was going to Old Trafford.
"I met my favourite player, David Beckham, and I was really excited but nervous at the same time.
"All my friends were really jealous and they all wanted me to get autographs for them."
Sheila said: "Meeting David made all Katie's fund-raising efforts worthwhile.
"We all had a really wonderful day and they looked after us all extremely well. It's certainly an experience I won't forget in a hurry."
And Manchester United beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 thanks to their lucky charm.
