ST HELENS Sutton AC members took part in the open track meeting at Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay with a great deal of success.
In the under 13 years girls, winners were Danielle Whitfield in the javelin with a throw of 19.07m and in the shot put with 7.61m, and Emma Burrows in the 100m with a time of 13.8 secs.
Also in this group there were second places for Jody Nelson, javelin with 17.35m, Gemma Clayton, high jump with 1.3m, Emma Burrows in the 200m with her time of 29.7secs, and Jody Nelson who ran 2min 34.3secs in the 800m.
Also in the 100m, Gemma Clayton ran 14.5secs and Danielle Whitfield 15.3secs, and Jody Nelson put the shot 5.58m.
In the under 15 years girls, Laura Davenport was a winner in the 1500m with 5min 6.6secs, Kerry Greenall was second in the javelin with 18.61m and Laura Bishop was third in the 75m hurdles with 13.0secs.
The under 17 years group saw Holly O'Connor winning the 800m in 2min 24.3secs and taking second place in the 200m with 27.5secs a race which also saw Ruth Garvey run 29.3secs and Laura Clayton 29.6secs.
Matthew Wharton took second place in the under 17 years boys long jump with 4.22m and third place in the 1500m with 5min 0.9secs while Matthew Davenport was third in the senior men's mile with 4min 47.9secs.
Two under 15 years girls travelled to Bolton for the open track meeting, Laura Davenport was again a winner taking the 800m in 2min 33.6secs,while Laura Bishop was second in the long jump with 4.16m and third in the 100m with 14.1secs.
A group of the senior ladies ran in the Paris marathon instead.
First for the club was Cecilia Fitzsimons with a time of 3hours 52min, then came Pam Appleton with 4hours 15min, and Janet Holmes ran 5hours 15mins. Two of the men accompanied them, Alan Davies who ran 4hours 45min and John Irwin who, although injured early in the race, struggled on to finish in 5hours 25min. The following weekend Cecilia Fitzsimons showed that the race hadn't blunted her speed as she ran her best ever time for 5miles when taking the over 50s prize in the Croxteth Park race in 35min 44secs ahead of one of the club's veteran men runners, John Clare, who ran 36min 20secs.
