New Earswick All Blacks 26 Blackbrook 6

BLACKBROOK, playing their third game in seven days, were forced to make eight changes to their squad, following their midweek victory over Keighley Albion, and included four teenagers in their line up - all of whom performed creditably.

Nevertheless, it was a real end of season display by the visitors who squandered too much possession.

The All Blacks led 8-6 at the break with a try by second row man Lee McTigue and two goals from full back Dave Carling against a Mike Hitchin try and a penalty goal by Andy Holland for Blackbrook. A Dave Carling penalty goal gave the homesters valuable breathing space after the break, but the turning point came on the hour. The All Blacks were climbing tenaciously to a 10-6 lead when Mick McTigue burst through over half way into Brook territory only to be stopped in his tracks by a solid tackle by a Brook defender. With the impact of the tackle the burly prop forward lost control of the ball which shot forward, into the air, and into the eager hands of stand off Mick Harrison who was left with a clear passage to the posts. Despite the visitors protests the referee awarded the try. Dave Carling added the easy conversion.

Mick Harrison and Simon Malarkey added further tries for the homesters in the closing stages and Dave Carling added both conversions.

Mike Hitchin received the Construction Power Services man of the match accolade, while Ian Buckley, Andy Holland, Ian Lynch and Paul Rigby also caught the eye.
