APPLICANTS for city council cash doled out for millennium community projects found out if they were successes or failures this week.

In all 147 applications were received for the Million for the Millennium scheme of which 27 were approved and 30 were deferred for further information.

Councillors had to allocate £250,000 to the scheme this year. The other £750,000 will be doled out during the next three years.

The successful applicants were: tree planting at Wennington - £5,000, extending greenspace at Fairfield Green - £21,000, Millennium tree planting - £20,000, Overton Memorial Hall - £5,000, Creation of car parking on New Street, Halton - £14,707, new wicket covers for Morecambe Cricket Club - £6,033, purchase of land at Yealand school - £11,200, Skerton garden initiative - £1,200, New floodlights at Slyne Bowling Club £4,821, new minibus for Preston and North Lancs Blind Welfare Society - £15,000, Lune Wyre Fishery Association Habitat Group for protection of wildlife - £6,000, Skerton Allotments Association - £1,000, Silverdale Parish Council Millennium Clock - £7,000, bus shelter in Over Kellet Village - £1,717,50, Replacement of bench at Scotforth Road/Lily Grove, Lancaster - £1,000, floodlights for Luneside and Rose Bank Bowling Club - £976.50, removal of redundant rediffusion wires in city centre - £5,000, Central Lancaster High School (sculpture trail) - £20,000, lifts for West End community centre - £25,000, millennium well and picnic area for Gressingham Parish Council - £1,350, restoration of St John's churchyard - £6,000, construction of canopy at Quernmore recreational club - £46.25, a fence separating John o' Gaunt allotments from play area - £3,638, millennium cobblestone mosaic in centre of Wray - £5,000, millennium clock for Victoria Institute - £2,000, wheels for all centre at Salt Ayre - £14,000, refurbishment of toilets at St Christopher's church hall - £5,000.

The rest of the money will go to improvement work at Happy Mount Park and on improving various play areas.
