COUNCIL leader Stan Henig this week welcomed a survey carried out by a Sunday newspaper which compared the city favourably with rivals in the county when it comes to services.
Of the 14 district councils in Lancashire, Lancaster has come out top and is also ahead of all but one of the six district councils in Cumbria.
Cllr Henig commented: "We all have reservations about league tables and there are obvious problems in comparing different parts of the country, but I always prefer it when Lancaster is in a high position. These comparisons concern the basic services which all councils offer and it is good to know that this time we have been ranked higher than any other district council in Lancashire. We will not be resting on our achievements. Our recent budget showed how we intend to maintain and improve the level of services over the next few years."
