POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an incident in which a young man was attacked and had his expensive mountain bike stolen.

The victim was riding along Higher Parr Street, Fingerpost, at about 8.50pm on Wednesday, March 31, when he was called over by a gang of youths.

As he reached the group, one of the lads butted him and kicked him, knocking him to the ground. The attacker then rode off on the victim's Claud Butler Anthus mountain bike, which has an aluminium frame and is valued at £400.

The attacker is described as white, aged 18 to 20 years with a medium build and about 5ft 8in tall, with fair hair. He was wearing a yellow tracksuit top and dark bottoms and spoke with a local accent.

Anyone able to help the police with their inquiries can contact DC Nat Boyd at St Helens police station on 0151 777 6064, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
