TOP cycle speedway riders from across the country speed into action in Astley on Saturday (6pm) when A&T Miners Welfare Club host the North West Grand Prix.
Leading the charge for honours is British indoor champion Steve Harris (Swindon), who is looking for a hat-trick of wins.
But he faces tough opposition including double world champ Mark Newsey and BCSC Grand Prix champion Shaun Ellis.
Admission is free.
Back on the home front, A&T Cycle Speedway have had a poor start to the season.
With most of last year's riders not returning, the team has struggled and defaulted several matches due to lack of numbers.
The one bright spot has been the form of Damien Hack, who was second in the British U16 Grand Prix in Bury and Northern U16 Grand Prix in Hull.
