ATHERTON LR gave hot title favourites Mossley a real run for their money before going down 1-0.

"We were absolutely brilliant," raved manager Steve Cunningham. "We played superbly and a draw would have been a fair result.

"Just like in midweek, when we went down 1-0 at St Helens, we matched one of the Division top sides all the way, only to miss out to the odd goal. It was 66 minutes before Mossley managed to get through our back four."

LEIGH ATHLETIC clocked up THIRTEEN goals as they demolished Old Boltonians and Smithillians.

They blasted the OBs 9-1, opening with a four-goal blast via Steve Marsh (2), Neil Sumner and Craig Little.

Bolton pulled one back soon after the break, but Athletic got back into gear as Marsh and Little completed their trebles, Gordon Walker and Dave Stead (his first of the season) wrapping it up.

Smiths proved a solid outfit with Athletic forced into a re-shuffle. But goals from Danny Wilson, Richard Wilson, Walker and Little completed a 4-1 win.

ATHERTON, who play in the Chorley Sunday 5-a-side League, are looking for a goalkeeper. Call Andy Yates on 01942-677112.
