THE head teacher of a Blackburn primary school was assaulted by the mother of one of his pupils when she went in to complain about bullying.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Carol Maureen Gibbons had been drinking before she went to St Luke and St Philip's School and confronted head teacher Frank Jeffs.

Gibbons, 39, of Palatine Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to assault and was fined £100 with £45 costs.

She was also bound over in £100 to be of good behaviour for 12 months.

Michael Cunningham, prosecuting, said Gibbons went to the school at 3.30pm to make a complaint about bullying.

It was apparent she had been drinking and when the head tried to discuss the matter she pushed him backwards.

Mr Cunningham said Gibbons was swearing when there were children present.

When she was asked to leave the premises she said she was going to come back and break every window in the school.

Martin Heyes, defending, said Gibbons had been concerned about the bullying of her son.

She admitted having a drink at lunch time and losing her temper, but claimed she had only pushed Mr Jeffs with her finger tips.

He said she was very sorry for what had happened and assured the court it would never happen again.
