DARWEN Alexandra booked their place in this Sunday's Blue & White Rosebowl Cup Final and will play King's Inn at Mill Hill St Peter's ground.
In their semi-final replay they beat Station who took the lead inside two minutes when the Alex keeper could only help a Paul Curley shot into his own net. Alex then gradually got on top and with David Atkinson scoring two and John Howarth converting a penalty, they held a healthy half time lead.
In the second half a second Curley goal put Station right back in the tie, but Atkinson then completed his hat trick to see Alex through.
On the league scene the only issues yet to be decided are the Division One championship and runners-up. These places are between King's Inn, Old Toll Bar and Darwen Alex. The final games will take place on May 9 and it could well rest of the outcome of the King's Inn v Darwen Alexandra clash.
The only Division One game played this weekend saw Old Toll Bar move into second place as four second half goals defeated a spirited Jubilee side. The Toll's scorers were Ryan Clanford, Gordon Moore and two from Craig Foulds.
Servicemaster clinched the Division Two championship with a two-goal victory over the Moorings. Steve Mullen and Paul Otley got the champions' goals. Dexter Paints will be promoted as runners-up despite going down to Witton Inn by the odd-goal-in-three. Stuart Hopkinson scored for Dexters with Witton's goals coming from Shaun Smith and Edward Murphy. Stanley Arms, in their last match of the campaign got their first league win as they overcame West End. Rick Stevens and Chris Turner were their heroes with West End's reply coming from Martin Dewhurst. Two goals from Chris Kennedy and one each from Dave Grundy and John Entwistle saw Aqueduct defeat Darwen St Peter's whose reply came from Matt Carlin.
In the Third Division, most clubs were faced with double headers and the surprise was that champions Swan went down twice to Walmsley. In the first meeting goals from Walsh and Mortimer gave the Rishton side the three points with Swan's reply coming from Howard Clarke.
In the second meeting Walsh and Ryan scored two each with Duncan Nield getting the Darwen side's consolation goal. Longshaw also took maximum points from their two matches, firstly beating James Street with goals from Jimmy Allison, Terry Lambe and Claude Thomas. Jimmy Allison was also on target in the second match with two goals against Fox & Hounds with Damian Nelson adding a third. Steve Berry pulled one back for the Hounds.
Sign & Poster had a remarkable finale, winning all their seven last games. Jason Brown and Adam Cottam got their goals in the win over Marriotts Accountants whose reply was scored by Phil Liggins.
Bottom club James St were the next victims and this turned out to be a personal landmark for Jason Brown who hit the net five times. Adam Gregson then added a sixth with David Reed getting one for James Street. Uncle Jack's secured promotion following victory over Marriotts Accountants. Uncle Jack's have been undefeated in 11 of their last 13 games. Their goals came from Bernard Cullen, Mark Bleasdale and Paul Lysons with Dave Pilkington replying for Marriotts. A single goal from Stanley Racing's Graham Billington was sufficient to give them three points against King Edward, who then went on to gain a draw against Malt & Hops. Steve Almond scored for the Guide team with the Malt & Hops reply coming from Graham Gornall.
Will all secretaries note that the forms for application for league membership for next season MUST be with the league secretary by this Friday, April 30.
