SHOCKWAVES rippled through A Division of Hyndburn Woolwich Junior League as Hotshots dropped a point for the second time in three weeks.
But in B Division, the A Team took a step nearer to winning the title race by demolishing Double H. Nick Hallsworth took Adrian Bond to four games and Andrew Evans to five, but despite his valiant effort he narrowly lost them both. Adrian and Andrew then won their other matches including the doubles, quite comfortably to take a maximum five points.
Andrew remains unbeaten in the merit table.
CSB remain in second place after being handed an easy victory against Ping & Pong. The five points maintain their chances of finishing in a promotion spot.
Smash & Thrash remain in third place after an impressive win over fellow promotion chasers, Prop Ups. The contest between Liam Brown and Rikki Whittaker was the crunch match. It went to five games which Rikki narrowly won 11-8, drawing first blood to the Thrashers.
Prop Ups began to crumble following this. Jake Bolton won both his matches and Rikki also won his other one. Together they won the doubles to complete the whitewash. Rikki moves up one position into seventh place in the merit table.
Tigers gained only their third win of the season against a luckless All Stars and leapt from seventh to fifth in the table. Daniel Brady was very unlucky to lose to Tigers Matthew Lyons 9-11 in the fifth game. Incredibly, partner Daniel Morris then lost to Gary Blackburn by an identical fifth game scoreline.
Gary notched up a second win before Daniel Morris unbelievably lost another five-game thriller, this time to Matthew. Gary and Matthew then won the doubles in straight games to give Tigers a rather flattering 5-0 victory. Matthew returns to the merit table in eighth place. Hotshots' Matthew Hamer won both his matches in straight games in the A Division upset against Rishton Rovers. Steven Riddiough won his first comfort- ably, but was taken to five games by Simon Walsh which ended 11-3 in Steven's favour.
The surprise came when Rovers won the doubles in four games to make the final score 4-1 to Hotshots. The result opened up a 12-point gap between them and second-placed Unbeatables who did not play this week.
Ozzy Hardcores returned to winning ways in their match against Scretnins. Both Daniel Gorton and Matthew McNamara beat James Holden in straight games and Chris Hodkinson in four games. The pair were also too strong in the doubles and won that to take the match 5-0. They remain in fourth place but have narrowed the gap between them and Rishton Rovers.
The relegation battle between Smashers and Rishton Rebels ended in triumph for Rebels giving them some valuable breathing space from the lower end of the table. Adam Hek won twice to be player of the match. William Dennis and Simon Andrews both defeated Richard Hek to pull Smashers level.
The match hinged on the doubles in which the Heks' pecked out a victory in the fourth game. This gave Rebels the tie, 3-2. Adam enters the merit table for the first time in seventh place.
Results - A Division: Rishton Rovers 1, Hotshots 4; Rishton Rebels 3, Smashers 2; Scretnins 0, Ozzy Hardcores 5.
B Division: The A Team 5, Double H 0; Smash & Thrash 5, Prop Ups 0; Tigers 5, All Stars 0; Ping & Pong 0, CSB 5.
