EARLY morning peace was shattered by the sound gun blasts in a quiet Leigh street.
Shotgun pellets riddled the front door of a Dakins Road house and a car in the driveway.
Sunday's 2.30 am attack wakened neighbours who heard the sound of a car speeding away after the shots were fired.
Police are investigating the incident in which two shots were fired at close range, either through the letterbox or at it, and at the Ford Escort parked outside.
A woman and three children, at home at the time, were uninjured.
Det Insp Steve Baldwin of Leigh CID said: "It was a very frightening experience, not only for the woman and children but also for neighbours.
"House to house inquiries are continuing and we are appealing for witnesses."
