RUBEROIDS Sutton Cricket Club had a mixed day on Saturday in their matches against St Asaph.
The first team played at home, lost the toss and fielded first. Tight bowling from Stuart Rimmer in particular kept the St Asaph batsmen fighting for their runs and at 70-6 they looked in trouble. The middle order, though, contributed with some big hitting and pushed St Asaph to a respectable 148 all out.
Stuart Rimmer ended with three wickets and Keiron Barr two.
Sutton then batted and were soon in trouble. At 30-5 the game looked to be heading for an early finish but credit to Suttons positive play, they still chased the win with Martin Honey playing a spectacular innings of 72. However the early loss of wickets meant Sutton were always behind on the chase and they closed their innings on 119-9.
The seconds had an excellent win at St Asaph. Batting first on a dodgy track the Sutton team did extremely well to make 92.
Luke Tunstall hit a solid 20 and captain Mark Reynolds made a gutsy 16 not out. St Asaph then batted and got away to a decent start but Sutton refused to give up.
Cometh the hour, cometh the man.
Skipper Mark Reynolds was unplayable and spun his way to 7-33 as Sutton bowled out St Asaph for 88 thus giving Sutton a four run win. This was a fine team performance with skipper Reynolds confirming his all-rounder status. Should anyone wish to play cricket at Sutton this year nets are at the ground on Wednesday evenings at 6pm.
