AN ATHERTON family is praying a kidney transplant donor will soon be found for their little heroine.
Little Rebecca Lynch has just had her second kidney removed, and now faces 12 hours of daily dialysis until an organ is located.
But Rebecca, aged eight, who is now back in the swing at Meadowbank CE School just days after leaving hospital, is taking it all in her stride.
To make life easier, while she is forced to endure the hours of home dialysis, workers at a Boothstown food factory organised a raffle.
They raised £202 to buy her a play station and children's lap top computer.
training officer at Lenders Foods, Chaddock Lane, Boothstown, Linda Meakin, said: "I knew what was happening because I know Rebecca's grandma, Eileen Moss, and her aunt Linda who lives next door to me.
"I thought it might be nice to buy something to keep her occupied while she is linked up to the machine and every employee contributed."
Mum Linda, of Spa Road, Atherton, said: "I'd like to thank the factory for their kind gifts.
"Rebecca now has to have dialysis from 7.30pm to 7.30am for six days of the week, so she will be grateful for some entertainment.
"We are just hoping a transplant will come along soon. I have been warned to be on the alert. A call could come at any time of the day or night."
Grandma Eileen Moss, of Stanley Street, Atherton, said: "Rebecca's a little marvel, she's doing fine - except for breaking her two front teeth.
"I'd like to thank all my neighbours for their kind wishes, flowers cards and presents."
Julie, a part-time assistant at Hesketh Fletcher High School said Rebecca's illness was discovered when she was two-years-old.
She became tired and anaemic and it was then discovered that her kidneys had not developed properly from birth.
She lost one at the time and last year the second began to deteriorate.
She went into Pendlebury Children's Hospital last month to have it removed after undergoing dialysis training in January.
Julie, who also has a son, Michael, six, said: " All I can do now is wait and hope."
