CARL Fogarty sacrificed another chance to exert his supremacy over the rest of World Superbike Championship field in order to concentrate on tuning his bike to perfection for tomorrow's Donington Park spectacular.
Blackburn's finest was onlt eight fastest behind Ducati team-mate Troy Corser in yesterday's opening qualifying session for round three of the series which Foggy leads by four points.
Fogarty spent much of the day tinkering with the bike in preparation for today's second timed session.
He said: "I'm working a lot on the rear suspension to try and get more grip half-way through the curves.
"For the moment I don't feel much pressure on my home circuit.
"Today's session should give me the chance to improve set-up for the race.
"I have only used race tyres because I'm working on set-up for the race."
Corser was 0.3s quicker than Kawasaki's wild card rider Chris Walker with Spaniard Gregorio Lavilla, also Kawasaki-mounted, in third place.
Castrol Honda's Colin Edwards finished the session in fourth place to complete the provisional front row of the grid.
Edwards said: "I'm happy with the time I've done. I did my quickest lap on a hard compound, race tyre so I'm confident I could at least equal Troy's time with a softer compound Michelin tyre."
