A QUARTET of happy punters were handed a £500 bonus after they finished top of the Lancashire Evening Telegraph National Hunt Naps Contest.
The Judge Walmsley, Billington, team - John Swain, David Geldard, Ernie Whiteoak and landlord Paul Cryer - won the competition by a short head, but they were very nearly pipped on the post by second-placed Marsden Cross Inn, Brierfield, who managed to find a 33-1 winner on the final day. However, that was an agonising 51p short of the Billington team's total, amassed with impressively efficient tipping - 10 winners out of 18 selections over the winter months - which saw them deservedly hold on to the top spot.
