BLACKBURN Boys gained revenge for their defeat at the hands of Barrowford in the Cup semi-final, with two first half strikes in the Hyndburn and District Boys' League Under-14s play-off semi-final.
In the other semi-final, things were much closer with neither St Annes and St Joseph's or Blackburn Dynamos able to prise open their opponents' defences. Even in the penalty shoot-out it was 2-2 after five penalties. It was settled on the first penalty of sudden death with the Blackburn side missing.
On Sunday evening the Under 14s Cup final took place with the score level at full time. In extra time Barrowford scored during the second period and managed to hang on for a win.
In the under 16 play-off semi-finals, both section winners lost out to the section runners-up. Anchor saw their season end when beaten 6-4 after extra time and penalties. This was a see-saw game with both sides having almost won it prior to the penalty shoot-out.
With seconds to go in normal time, Anchor were leading 2-1 when Darwen Utd equalised. There was just enough time for the centre to be taken when the full time whistle went. During extra time, Darwen Utd took the lead leaving the score 3-2, but seconds before the end of extra time Anchor scored an equaliser. The second of the games was just as entertaining. Feniscowles took the lead early in the first half with West End Utd responding very positively scoring twice during the remainder of the first half. The second half started with West End Utd dominating the game and eventually gaining their third goal.
All credit to the Blackburn outfit who fought back to bring the score to 3-3 at the end of normal time. During extra time it took a late winner from West End to secure their place in the final.
