PLATES have been fitted into the shattered face of a 25-year-old who suffered a double fracture of the jaw in an unprovoked attack in Padiham.
The victim and a friend who was also assaulted, were making their way home along Spa Street at 2am on Saturday when the incident happened.
Both were taken to Burnley General Hospital, where the more seriously injured man underwent surgery.
He had been beaten and kicked while on the ground. He is now recovering at home.
His friend, 21, was also thumped and kicked but escaped with bruising and minor cuts.
Two men were involved in the assault, but police have only been able to get a description of one, who is said to be white, in his late twenties, six feet tall with dark hair. He was wearing a red short-sleeved shirt.
Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact DC Dave Grant on 01282 425001.
DC Grant said: "It seems to have been a savage, unprovoked attack carried out without any motive."
