AS one of the "rabbit families" referred to in Mr Matthews' letter (Citizen, April 29) I felt it my duty to respond.
I have lived in the Kellet ward for 25 years but due to the breakdown of my marriage I am currently living in privately rented accommodation. I would dearly love to be able to buy rented property in the ward but I challenge Mr Matthews to find a property which is within the means of a lone parent family with only one wage earner.
We do not live in squalor, nor indeed poverty, but for various reasons our current housing is not adequate for our needs. Mr Matthews should perhaps bear in mind that the recent housing survey could be completed anonymously.
I have no way of knowing if the statistics quoted are correct but I feel sure that there are people who, like myself, felt able to express their needs in private but do not wish their personal circumstances to become public knowledge.
I completed a home housing application form as soon as I knew the houses on Laithbutts Lane were being built and eagerly await their decision on my family's eligibility.
