IN response to the article about too many pubs, whilst many landlords are not happy with more pubs/clubs opening, none of them have ever had the bottle to open a "No Smoking" pub/club.
They are complaining and whinging about losing trade but I have absolutely no sympathy with them - just as none of them have sympathy for me.
Some landlords/barmen allow my girlfriend and I to wedge open doors for fresh air but this only leads to other customers complaining it is too cold or breezy.
Smokers have had it all their way for too long. Smoking is probably the most anti-social, selfish behaviour of all people's habits.
It's about time facilities were created for non-smokers. We like to go to the pub to socialise, join in quiz nights and watch football. On the few occasions when we do go to the pub in the afternoon when it is quieter we know we will need a shower and a change of clothes the minute we get home. I would even say that the smoke-drenched atmosphere winds me up. Personally I'd ban smoking full stop and strike smokers of the NHS lists to make them go private.
If you ask smokers about non-smoking drinking facilities the usual response is that you're restricting their freedom of choice. What about people like us - are we not entitled to choice? I'm sure smokers would complain if I went around spitting in their drinks. All comments and responses are welcome. I can predict who will have the most to say.
Non-smoker,
Morecambe.
