STAUNCH Atherton Labour supporter Edie Morris has died at the age of 87.
And this week the local Party paid tribute to the woman who will be sadly missed by the residents of Hag Fold estate.
She passed away in Leigh Infirmary last week.
Secretary of the Atherton branch, Cllr Sue Loudon, said: "The branch wish to record its deepest sympathy to Edie's family. Our thoughts are with her children at this time."
Edie worked for the Leigh Constituency Party serving on its executive committee, and her support for the Atherton branch was unstinting.
Sue said: "Even when she became ill she still insisted that her Dorset Road home should be used as a committee room for the use of the Party on election days."
Edie was also a founder member of the local women's section of the Party, and always encouraged other women to get involved in politics at both local and national level.
She also helped to organise social events and was an influential member of the pensioners' social meetings at the estate community centre.
