LYTHAM Juniors U9s enjoyed their Bank Holiday tournament at the Ansdell Arena and entered two sides in this age group which included 19 teams from across the country.
The A team were unlucky to lose by the odd goal in their first two games, but fought back to give a commanding performance in their next match against Two Gate Boys from Birmingham.
Callum Faulds was on target with a brace, while David Rowley was a consistent performer throughout the weekend.
In the plate competition on Sunday (May 2) they went a goal behind in the first half against Humbertherm and were grateful that Paul Burton was in tremendous form in goal for the Juniors.
In the final minute Joseph Ormond almost snatched a last-gasp equaliser, but he was inches wide of goal with a shot on the turn.
The B team were tremendous throughout the weekend and finished runners-up in their qualifying group games.
James Edgar was top scorer with five goals and along with Sean Cross formed a lethal strike partnership up front for the juniors. In the quarter final against a strong Sherwood team, Richard Grindrod beat three players on a mazy run before James Edgar slotted home.
In the semi-final they fought like tigers against a strong Roe Lane side who found Stephen Donaldson in excellent form in goal.
Richard Walshe and Michael Cooper were outstanding throughout for Lytham.
Both teams can be proud of the efforts during the competition, which highlights the terrific progress the U9s have made this season.
